Sarah
My daughter had been attending our lovely local Swiss school. However, I gradually noticed that her competency in reading and writing in English was deteriorating.
I tried to sit down with her to teach her the basics but it never seemed to work. Both she and I got frustrated quickly and she found it laborious. Finally, she would refuse to work with me and hated her English work.
I decided I had to turn to a professional for help. Ruth Milne had been recommended to me by a friend. I spoke to a couple of people who taught children, as well as to Ruth. It was clear from the outset that she was a professional. She was the only one who held a teaching degree, had the most experience of teaching and seemed to actually care about the progression of the child. She was so very helpful and supportive from the start I knew that things would improve dramatically and they did!
Sarah loved attending Dynamic Learning lessons. There was always such a variety of activities that she never grew bored. Ruth provided a clear structure of what Sarah had to achieve following the English National Curriculum. She usually gave a verbal feedback on Sarah’s strengths and weaknesses after each session. She also provided us with homework to support Sarah’s learning. This consisted of reading books, worksheets or the completion of work for the following week.
Her "star" system for rewarding the children and raising self-esteem was a real winner with Sarah. There was a real incentive to do well and she’s never been so proud of herself! Her "star chart" is stuck to our fridge as a reminder!
She truly has given Sarah "a head start in life". After some long, hard decision making we decided to send Sarah to the IIL. She passed her entrance exam and gained a place and I put it all down to Dynamic Learning and Ruth Milne. If it hadn’t been for her, I doubt she would have succeeded.
I would highly recommend her to anyone.
